At the altar, when you ask God something, He is great and magnificent to answer your request. To enter His presence we must do certain steps to have effectual prayer.
Come with a spirit of thanksgiving
Restore the altar in your life
We must make a willful choice to straighten things up in our lives. We do this through repentance. It is here, when we repent and restore the altar, a changing of the heart occurs. We must die daily to our self because we come thorny with the cares of life and the draw of the world. We can’t live in darkness and be pure. Daily we must acknowledge our sins and ask to be delivered.
Continuously keep spirit of repentance so our name doesn’t get blotted out of the book of life. We must purify self before prayer and have a clean heart. – 1 John 1:3
You can never wear out the path of the cross
To repent we must have both conviction and conscious. An understanding of each will lead you to the altar where you can experience change.
We need to know what conviction is. We need to see what God sees and hear what He hears. This is how we are convicted. The awareness that God is good will lead us to conviction. Romans 2:4 says, “Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”
For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. – Matthew 13:15
Conscious means having knowledge of something or being aware of it. In God’s word He is clear about convictions we must have. It doesn’t matter if you believe any of the following are sinful in nature, what matter is the word of God does.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. – Galatians 5:19-21
Acknowledge our Sin
We must acknowledge our sin and stop yielding ourselves to it. People become so immune to habits, habitually addicted to their behavior to the point where they don’t know they are angry, that they have addictions or that they live in fear. Instead they are a servant to it. We need to make habits that are Godly habits such as worshiping God with lifted hands or praising God and not caring if others see or hear you.
Confess and be delivered from it
Take time to look up the definition of the works of the flesh as listed in Galatians 5. Ask yourself, if you…
– Start arguments just to exemplify yourself?
– Seek to control others through manipulation and intimidation?
– Have impure or evil thoughts?
– Promise obligations that you can’t or don’t fulfill?
– Imagine evil thoughts of others?
– Turn others against each other?
– Refuse to admit when wrong to cause division and strife?
It’s important to be aware of our sinful nature in order to determine that we all need an altar. We must have a change of heart. We must be aware of how to confess iniquity. Ask God to forgive and ask those we need forgiveness from to forgive us. When you take these steps your heart changes.
When we go to the altar it should bring conviction and change! What good is Christianity if you aren’t different, a new creature in Christ? Restore the altar back in the home and in your church. Know that God’s intentions are to move your life forward.
Read: Matthew 5:2-6, Isaiah 57:13
Last step – We must make up our mind and surrender. We can’t live for God if we walk in our own flesh. We have learned behaviors that must be put in check. Pray to God to surrender your will but you must also do YOUR part. Find yourself an altar and stay on it! You can’t go through life by how you feel. You must live life by what you know is right – reading God’s Word will direct your path.
Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:5
Surrender all your thoughts to the Lord. The imagination of our heart can lead us to a lie. How many thoughts this week alone have led us astray? The real battle is in the realm of faith. The solution is at the moment of becoming out of control with fear and imagination, pray it through the victory and take control of your mind.
Are you ready to restore the altar in your life? Ask the Lord to help you find an altar through repentance, conviction and surrendering.
Pray for Wisdom
Pray for the Lord to help you restore an altar back in your life. We must get our tabernacle in order so we can be changed.
Lord help me get my tabernacle in order. God restore my love for you again and remain my first love. Let me be continually reminded of your awesomeness and your goodness. Help me live my life by your word not by my feelings. During times when I may be weak, let me be reminded by conviction. I pray for you to change my heart and allow for Godly habits and disciplines. Restore an altar back in my life, my home and my church. I surrender all to you including my thoughts and my imaginations. I know you are my provider, my strength and you are able.
